Headlime allows you to create custom templates and freely create new documents. When doing this, there may be a specific type of variable you want to use that Headlime doesn't have. No worries, you can create custom variables too!
To create a custom variable, follow these steps:
In the template editor, click on the 'Custom Variables' button in the left sidebar
Your screen should look like this. This is where all your custom variables can be viewed. When you don't have any custom variables, a Create a variable button will show up instead. Click either that button or the New variable button.
You will be prompted with four fields to fill out.
Fill out each of the forms. Only the Title form is required, the others are optional.
Click the Create new variable button.
And done! Your custom variable is now created!
You can use this variable when creating templates and documents just like you would use any other variable. When creating copy, you can find your variable among all the others in the list on the right.
Note: does your custom variable not appear right away? Make sure you added it to the project you're currently working on. If that's the case, try refreshing the page. Your custom variable should now appear.
